Is runner-up a bad thing?

Everyone wants to be with the man or woman of their dreams, but reality is that most people do not end up with that person. Should you wait on that person even if they are not yet ready for that role, with hopes that they will come around or do you embrace your second choice, someone that you may not like as much as your number 1, but there is no doubt that you are their #1?

This topic created quite the debate. With over 50 comments, I will touch on just a few. Gina G. Seemed to be quite passionate about the topic. Her overall view was that Settling on #2 is doing both parties a disservice and while most relationships may not be 50/50, if you enter it at anything less than that, you are doomed from the beginning. She overall thinks that people should not settle for their mate, they should wait to be with the person of their dreams.
Shedwrick R. thinks that if someone adores YOU, then you should give them a shot. You may have a shot at being happy, he thinks.    Hmmmm...you think?
Fred G. said something that sounds good but I don't know if it is that realistic. He said that he was told that if you wanted to be happy, love the person that loves you.
I'm sure that works for some, but I know that it doesn't work for all.
Kenneth E. agreed with Fred and of course had more to add when Fred went on to say, who cares if I was your 1st, or 3rd choice. Someone is always more vested than the other person. The only thing that matters is that you are with me now.  Wow!! Become a part of the group Single Friends to read the rest of Kenneth's response.
